Creating a New Bedroom

I've been chompin' at th' bit to get our bedroom "redone" and that includes several stages.

First I wanted to create a canopy by putting the netting up before getting the room painted pink so I could fill the nail holes before the paint job. Can't you just see how much prettier it's going to be with new pink walls?! Those are paper roses up on the top part. Ooooh, my heart is thumpin', chicks!!

Next was a trip to the post office and fabric shop yesterday. Now, this might sound easy but since I haven't been out of this house for almost 10 days except to doctor's office it was exhausting, gals, exhausting!! I had to come home and take a nap for 40 minutes. Then I told Love Bunny it was whatever he could throw together for dinner as I just wasn't up to it and THEN proceeded to pass another stone, but it went quickly. Not a "beautiful" night all in all, but I'm on a roll today, little cherubs. He threw some TGIF potato skins in the oven. That was it! But tonight he's taking me to Olive Garden.

But anyway, I had to pick up some eye candy for me and to show you. I got these little ornaments for about $1.50 each. Zooo0wwwwieee! I'm infatuated with them, especially since this one had roses on it! These will be hung in my office or sewing and craft room.

This little blue one is also just a glittery thing to hang in one of the rooms.

And these little green balls??? Aaaaah. they're such a pretty green so I couldn't resist at $3.00 for 12 of these little darlings!
Now, this morning.........

Hubby walks for a half hour every morning on our treadmill. When I got out of bed he hadn't walked as I can tell because his sweats were dry. I mentioned this to him. He said he wanted to stay and snuggle with me. I said he didn't need to do that because I felt fine this morning. He said, "Some things are more important" and looked at me. Now, how could you NOT keep a man like that around? Hmmmmm???

Random Thoughts 1/7/09

The last several days I've been "reflecting" on a lot of things.

Hubs wanted roast beef for dinner tonight. Now, there isn't much at all that man asks for and I have the power to make him happy with a roast so it's a done deal. He said to just put it on and he'd do the potatoes and veggies when he got home but I felt so much better today that I put some instant mashed potatoes and corn on the table for him and he was in heaven.

My philosophy has changed over the years from trying to "do it all" as the culture of the 60s, 70s and 80s told women we should do. I don't want to be the "leader" in this house. I am in a way though. I hope I bring a feeling of joy and peace to those who enter. I don't want a man who lets people walk all over him. I want a real man who'll fight for his family and be the example to his kids and wife. I'm equal in this household and it shows, just as hubs is equal. We complement each other. That's what I want - a real man! So if a roast can make him happy then he'll get a roast beef! It isn't about trying to wear the pants in the family, at least, for me it isn't. It's about working as a team to have a happy and serene home for us and family.

I was reading a humorous mystery lately and saw something that struck me. The heroine was a bounty hunter and trying to bluff her way into an office to spy on the occupants. She put on a name tag that got her in the door and to the guard. She said something that I have always thought but she said it so much better than I could.

Men trust women. She had on a name tag that said she was a surveillance expert and he believed it. She could look like a $5 "woman of the evening" and he'd believe it because that's what men do - trust women.

Women are wary. (And I can attest to that! Years ago hubs answered the door at night to a woman who wanted to use our phone. I said she couldn't come in but I'd phone for her. She ran down the walk and disappeared! I was shaken to think he'd believe a story she was giving him. Thank goodness I was there listening when he answered the door.) Men grow up thinking they're immortal. (I can attest to that also.......son in motorcycle accident at 16 years of age....hmmmmm! Long story. Not getting into it here.) So it's a good thing for men that we're women and it's a good thing for women there are men!

A friend in my ebay group wanted to see this picture by Michel Delacroix and it is one of my very favorites. When I saw it in a shop in California 20 years ago I knew I had to have it as it spoke to my heart. I'll never part with this picture. It just looks like a place I'd love to live. Oh, not for the big house but for the "simpleness" of the times it reflects. I don't want to live without my modern conveniences and anyone who says they do is either lying or nuts. Do you have any idea what that would entail? For one thing you wouldn't have a car to drive kids around to their games or go to the malls or whip up a quick meal in the microwave or even have toilet paper. Nuuuuuuu, not on my list of things to give up.

But I'd like for the "softness" of the times to return and grip us by the heart and make us kinder and gentler to each other, speaking no words of harshness or ill will and trusting each other more.

Seeing new babies always gives me a thrill and the man who painted my house has a new baby - their first girl. He sent me a picture from his camera phone and it reminded me of Anne Geddes style of photos. Isn't this a little doll? I can't wait to see her in person before all the "new" wears off but passing these kidney stones has prevented me from seeing her. I'll be able to soon though.

This is me and my daughter when I was pregnant with my son. She's such a cutie in this pix but I look like a pregnant elephant.

This is another favorite picture of her on the floor probably thinking of ways to drive her mother nuts! Notice the early 60s television. All we had then was black and white. But, oh my gosh, we felt we had it all with a tv and new tables for our military quarters.

Now this is my favorite picture of my son. We lived near Balboa Park in San Diego and he was under 2 but his cheeks were so roly poly and that angelic look just makes my heart melt. He's a skinny 6'2" now.

You'll notice the military issue sofa and those 2 charming little ones on it. Hah. They were scheming, let me tell ya.

This is Miss Emma, Dolly's grandchild. When I first saw Emma a couple of years ago I noticed her sweet little cherubic face and those chubby cheeks. It reminded me of my son. I asked Dolly if I could use that picture and she sent me a newer one. (Isn't that just like an adoring grandma?!?!) But I've tracked Emma all through her years and thought how adorable she was. Dolly posts on her regularly and how she's growing into a little beauty. This picture is 2008.

Just look at those trusting eyes. Children are so adorable! But I've enjoyed watching Miss Emma grow up also.

So that's it for now. More will follow I'm sure.

I'm Still Here!

Yes, I'm still here. I'm still passing kidney stones and on pain killers for it. I'm just leaving you with a bit of "eye candy" today and will try to post more tomorrow.

These are some gorgeous paper roses I bought and put into my original bridal bouquet holder today. It's almost 48 years old now. Hah..... But aren't they gorgeous roses?

I received these little magnets saturday. I love them!! My brain is soooooo not working tonight because of the pain killers that I can't remember where I got them, but I'll post when I can remember. They are on my fridge and holding "beautiful things."

Hopefully I'll get all these stones to pass quickly and be back posting regularly. It's all I can do to keep up with the daily stuff at the moment.

Being Home #7

What happened yesterday:

Went to doctor at 9:30 am and nurse removed stint. 12-14" long with a curl in it to keep it in I suppose. She said if I had spasms to come back but the doctor wouldn't be in to administer morphine so I said if it happened (it did last time 3 yrs ago) I'd just go on over to the ER at hospital.

Love Bunny and I then stopped at the store for some applesauce that was on sale.

He took me home and went to work. I thought I'd buzz over to Boise and the Home Fabrics store to look for some fabric or panels for living room window. Boise is about 20 minutes from here.

In store I started to get "crampy" and at that point I figured I'd best just head on over to the ER at our local hospital.

Then the pain really kicked in. I don't know how I made it there. I was in such pain and shaking and sweating badly.

The ER was packed. I walked up to a nurse doing triage and told her I was passing a kidney stone (figured that would get their attention more than explaining about the spasm and it could have been a real possibility that I was passing one). She turned to a lady next to her who was a person registering incoming people. She got my name and birth date and said to come with her. I was hustled into the triage room and immediately taken to a room. I was still sweating, shaking and had started to get nauseous. They put in an IV for hydration and to get a vein started for pain killer. Then inserted an oxygen tube in my nose and cuffed my left arm. Then they asked me how bad the pain was on the "smiley/sad" face of pain. I said 8 or 9 and she replied that she was surprised it wasn't a 10 by looking at me. I was being on the side of caution when I said 8 or 9 because it really felt like a 10! First injection didn't stop it as well as I wanted so they gave me another injection through the IV and that did it. I was "snockered" then, chicks! But I started throwing up then. They administered an IV with nausea medication. After about 3 hours I called hubs because there was no way I could have driven at that point.

Of course, they wouldn't let me go until I gave them a "sample" of you-know-what so I did. They took the sample for lab work. Then the doctor came in and said I had a urinary tract infection. I was surprised actually since the doctor on monday gave me an antibiotic before the surgery. Hubs came and we left with prescriptions for antibiotics and nausea med and I staggered out to the car on hubs' arm. He put me to bed and went to pick up prescriptions.

I am still very nauseous and want to upchuck even at this moment. I had some applesauce and a little while ago some ice cream with strawberries. I'm having absolutely no pain at all right now. Just cannot keep my eyes open and want to throw up.

I think I'll hit the bed now, chicks. But I'll be fine tomorrow I'm sure.

I didn't live today so "beautifully", trust me. Hah........

Saturday morn:

I lost the strawberries and ice cream after about 5 minutes.

I think the applesauce stayed down however! LOL

Today will definitely be a "living beautifully" day!!! I got plans, chicks! :-)

I got the chance to clean out these closets during the Christmas week. I really have no idea why it took me so long, procrastination maybe? Probably? Definitely procrastination! But it's been naggin' on my mind for several months now. I knew it was truly a shambles when I tried to get some silky polyester type sheers in there and they kept sliding off onto the floor and also I couldn't find any light bulbs in a certain wattage that I needed so this is what happened. Tada!!!!!! Bliss.......Organization..........Order........ And then I had room to put the string of lights that hubs had put in with the Christmas decorations and just happened to find when he brought all the Christmas stuff down from the garage attic. I'd been looking for these little strings of lights and thought they were up there but he refused to go up until he was ready. Uuuuhhhhh, HIS time frame is NOT MY time frame. Hah!

So being home does have its advantages because otherwise I'd be dead before it ever got done. This I KNOW!

Now, as for the towels. This is just about 1/2 of what I have. Nuuuuu, less than half of what I have. I have no clue what I'm going to do with all these towels but if there's ever a shortage on bath towels, I'm set, chicks! I have some hung in the guest bathroom, some folded in a hanging towel holder in the guest room, some hanging in our master bathroom and more folded in our closet in our walk in closet. This is AFTER I've supplied my granddaughter with several sets when she moved into her new house. WHY???? Got me! Think I need counseling? Hmmmm. Well, since they are different colors I guess I'll just switch them around and wait till they wear out. A girl can never have to much ________. Fill in the blank!
