I decided a couple of weeks ago it's time for a new sofa. I've had this one for almost 20 years and it still looks fantastic, but I want a new one. I think it's time for a new one. Sheeesh, almost 20 years?! My granddaughter loves this sofa so it's going over to her home. She actually squealed when I told her she could have it if she wanted it.
She and her hubby have been looking at homes for about 2 years now and couldn't find one they liked until recently. They made a full price offer of $729,000 and waited all day to hear. The realtor said someone else made an offer $750,000— $21,000 over the asking price. They got it and granddaughter was very disappointed. It had everything they wanted for their growing family. They're rapidly outgrowing the home they're in now. That's the real estate market in the Seattle, Washington, area at the moment. You can name your asking price and actually get more for it. I was sad for her but they'll soon find one they like.
So in deciding that I'm going to get a new one, I've been scouring the internet for looks I might want. Ethan Allen will definitely be where I buy it though. Their sofas are far superior to any I've ever had before or seen in other people's homes. I'd love suggestions from any of you. You can see the one I have now:
But I'm seriously considering something like this one, which you'll recognize as my absolutely favorite room ever:

So my dilemma is one with a tight, tucked back or loose pillows for seat and back. I think I'll stick with 2 cushions if I decide on cushions. I like the roominess of 2 cushions. We rarely have a group at our home so I don't need a 3 cushion one and really don't like their looks as much as 2 cushion seating. What are some of your thoughts on this? I probably haven't considered every single factor yet.

Ooooh, and I almost forgot! That first house above is Kirstie Alley's vacation home in Maine. I saw it one day while looking for houses for my granddaughter.

Linking up with WOW.
Isn't that Kirstie Alley's previous house?
ReplyDeleteI have a 2 pillow couch Connie - and am looking for a 3 pillow one next time lol......
And hasn't real estate just gotten to a ridiculous point now? We sold a place 2 years ago for 700,000 - the buyers put in a new kitchen and it's now listed for 1,050,000.00 - I can't wrap my head around it - this was NOT a fancy schmancy place - although it was in a desirable area - it was very small. Don't get it at all!!!
Hugs,
Suzan
In UK that is known as 'Gazumping'(no idea why), but it rarely happens now. In fact any estate agent who allowed that would be very unpopular.
ReplyDeleteFor me the most important thing about a sofa is the comort especially of the height of the back. I prefer a 3 seater, and I like one with covers that I can remove to have cleaned.
I'm sure you will find the perfect one, Connie.
I like the nice busy room that was your favorite, too.
ReplyDeleteThat is a beautiful home! Wow. I like the 2 cushion sofas better too although the living room furniture has a bigger sofa than the family room furniture. I do hope you find something you like.

Hi Connie,
ReplyDeleteMy two sofa's are from Ethan Allen and are slip covers. I like Ethan Allen too expect you have to wait sometimes 3 months to receive them. How fun for you, I love shopping for new furniture. The cottage home of Ms Alley is lovely and full of charm, my kind of home. I hope the kids find the home of their dreams.
Have a sweet day, Elizabeth
I too love Ethan Allen but loose back cushions make me crazy.. thats just me though.. I hope you are over the moon happy with whatever you decide.
ReplyDeleteHope you find just what you are looking for. I for one like your favorite room. It looked so warm and inviting.

I love that bedroom with the green wallpaper. Shopping for a sofa makes me tired. I have read many of your comments on Claudia's site so it is great to party with you at Kim's. Olive
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful post!!! I loved all the rooms! Good luck with your sofa search! Hugs, Penny
ReplyDeleteBeautiful rooms, good luck with your sofa hunting.
ReplyDeleteHi Connie! Oh, what gorgeous rooms you're showing us. Your sofa looks wonderful to be 20 years old, but hey, go for it and find another. 20 years is a long time.
ReplyDeleteHope you're doing well and being a sweetie,
Shelia ;)
A new sofa sounds awesome. I do like the one you have. No wonder your granddaughter squealed. I would not get a couch with cushions on the back. I did that once and the cushions were NEVER in place. It drove me nuts but then so did my five kids. HA! They were the cushion movers for the most part. You asked???
ReplyDeleteI have had Ethan Allen furniture and it is so well made. EA has my vote. My couch and recliner now are Lazy Boy. They have a lifetime warranty for parts. We had our recliner fixed twice and we only paid a few dollars for labor. I couldn't pass up the bargain we got and did not buy EA. We haven't been sorry. So that may be another tip. The couch at Lazy Boy was still $1000. fifteen years ago.
Have fun looking for your new couch.
BTW, the homes in Seattle are expensive. Poor kids.
Have a great day,
hugs, Jeanne
Hope you get a new sofa. I ONLY look for comfort. I am short so HATE the deep sofas where my legs stick straight out:):) We bought our last sofa at Lazt Boy and LOVE IT!!! XO, Pinky
ReplyDeleteBeautiful images. I would love for you to stop by my blog for a visit. I am also hosting a giveaway to win a Homegoods gift card. Thanks Anu
