I wrote this post when I was new to blogging so most people, if you're like me, never go back and read the older ones so I thought I'd post it again. It's still applicable and I thought certainly worthy of being repeated.

Something I thought of today while toweling off from my shower is freshly scented towels. My granddaughter asked me a couple of years ago what kind of laundry detergent and fabric softener I used. I asked her why and she said, "Because your sheets and towels always smell so good." What a compliment!! She noticed!! And I did tell her. But I have always been sensitive to smells - in the good way, not the allergic way. I love lovely scents. I have so many perfumes I'd never have to purchase another bottle in my lifetime. But today my towel smelled of a new fragrance I bought recently. A perfume. I must have placed the towel to my neck when I had just sprayed it on. It smelled wonderful. So what I'm going to do is just very lightly spray a tiny fine mist from a favorite perfume onto my towels from time to time. It'll keep the linen closet smelling fragrant and being ever so lightly sprayed I'll smell that scent when I'm toweling off. My "scents" from perfumes are in my clothes so why not have them on my towels. Just light fragrances, nothing "overpowering" is good.

That's the end of that post but I thought of something else. The same can be said for sheets also. Spray lightly.
I mostly buy 100% cotton sheets with a decent thread count - not 600 but maybe 300 for everyday unless I get a good deal on them somewhere.
I had a friend several years ago that started buying cotton sheets because I had told her how sensual they are to the body. She bought some and then washed them and called me to ask how I got the wrinkles out. I said I ironed the top sheet but the bottom one stretched out when put on the mattress. I thought she was going to faint! She said she didn't intend to iron sheets. So she threw them out! I about died because I would have taken them in a heart beat. Anyway, as I age I don't iron them anymore. I simply have come to love the wrinkles! See these that I just took out of the dryer and am folding. I think they're beautiful. But then I find beauty and joy in very simple things. ;-) I truly do!!!

Connie, I love my cotton sheets, and wouldnt have any other. My ironing method is to fold the sheets carefully, and just iron the topside. It seems to work!
ReplyDeleteSometimes I cheat and stuff a fabric sheet at the foot of my bed, underneath the bottom sheet but on top of the mattress pad. That works without me having to spritz my Halo everywhere. Besides, DH can't get too upset if it smells like his clothes and not girly like me.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea, though. I'll give it a try with the towels.

I love the smell of lavender and put lavender sachets under my pillow and some in the linen drawer my sister made me. I don't think I have cotton sheets-but I'm not 100% sure-I have my best sheets from TJ Max-pink with pink roses and they are very soft-I'll have to check the label.
ReplyDeleteI too love cotton sheets. Occasionally I will iron them but the little wrinkles give them character-hehe.
ReplyDeleteHi Connie, you're too funny! You have grown to love the wrinkles? By the way those are beautiful sheets. You have very good taste.Deb
ReplyDeleteHi Connie...what a wonderful idea of spritzing just a little perfume on towels! I love my cotton sheets and do iron them...when I can find the time!
ReplyDeleteHugz,
Michele
I too love cotton sheets. My sister irons hers and when I moved in with her she started to iron mine. I told her not to bother because as soon as you lay in the bed they are wrinkled again.
ReplyDeleteI DO NOT like any smells on my sheets or towles. I do have major allergies so I can not take it.
You won't find one bottle of perfume in my house either.
Everything just smells like clean soap smell.
Hugs,
Joanne
Ditto. I iron the top but the bottom doesn't need it, especially if you snatch it right out of the dryer and plop it right back on the bed. I lurrve slipping into my freshly ironed sheets at night! Puuurrrr.
ReplyDeleteSwing by my blog, Chickadee. I'm hosting a swap for Halloween.
Hon, Miss Loopy is my ad.or.a.ble 13-year-old daughter and partner in crafting crime! We get into all sorts of trouble together!
ReplyDeleteI did not understand sheets and thread counts until just about a year ago! I finally got a high thread count and I couldn't believe the difference! Now it is only 300 to 500 count for us! I also bought some satin pillow cases, which are very sensual!
ReplyDeleteHuggies!

ReplyDeleteHey my chicky friend, thanks so much for checking on us. All is well, we have internet, electricity, and cable all in one day!! Life doesn't get any better, T
ReplyDeleteHello Connie, My husband would never notice if the sheets were wrinkled or not, I don't think I have ever ironed sheets! I do remember my Mom doing it and making me do it sometimes, maybe that's why I don't iron them now....
ReplyDeleteLove, Ann
Great idea!!!! I also buy linen sprays at TJ Maxx or Marshalls. Love the lavender ones or the clean cotton.
ReplyDeleteNothing beats crawling into bed with clean sheets.

Love this idea. Cotton sheets are the best! Have you tried the linen dusting powder? You sprinkle it on the sheets and it is lovely.
ReplyDeleteHave a great evening.
hugs, Celestina
I have cotton sheets too. I don't iron them...always high thread count.
ReplyDeleteDo you realize we spend more time in bed that almost everywhere else. It needs to be a comforting environment!

Penny
Hi!
ReplyDeleteLove the idea of spritzing the towels with a favorite scent. I think I will try it!
Your blog is a joy to read through - would you mind if I add you to my blogroll? Have a fabulous week!!
Hugs,
Erin
You are right about cotton sheets. I buy vintage 100% cotton sheets, the "new" old stock. They can be pricey but worth it. And they are wonderful to pull off a clothesline and smell!
ReplyDeleteOh, I just love cotton sheets too. I love the vanilla lavender dryer sheets. Have you tried them? They are wonderful.
ReplyDeletexoxo,
Queenie!
Connie - you are so sweet with some of the things you say in your posts. It is so nice to get to know people from the things they write about that reveal little things here and there which can truly endear them to us.
ReplyDeleteI love combed cotton sheets. They are so soft and never wrinkle. I have to look at the content of them, but I'm almost certain they are 100% cotton and they are luscious!!
Me too, Connie - I've come to appreciate most of my wrinkles - sheets, face, time. Hey - I love all your "old" posts by the way! :)Nancy
