Social Media

What's going on with blogging? I have a list of favorites on my Google Reader and, for the most part, hardly any of them have posted much for the past several months. Is blogging becoming tiresome for some people? What could possibly be the reason?

Blogging isn’t that old but in terms of technology, it’s becoming old fast. I love blogging and have no intention of giving it up. But what happens next? What will be the next new social media that has everyone abuzz? I have no clue, but I never thought we’d see something like Facebook, Twitter or Linkedin either.

I don’t care much for social media. I never joined myspace. I joined Facebook under another name because I don’t particularly want anyone I knew years ago trying to find me. Someone did a few years ago but it wasn’t someone I wanted to be in contact with so I changed my name. I’m only on there so I can see my granddaughter and great granddaughter’s photos. I can’t think of a single person I’d want to find.

I tried twitter for one day. That was it. I don’t get what people see about it, but then I don’t text either—refuse to do it. Phones are for talking. Voices. Not text. I want to hear the person on the phone. I doubt seriously if I’ll ever change. I’m an old lady. I have 5 computers in this house. I’m rarely gone for more than a short time out of this house and if we travel, 2 laptop computers go with us—mine and hubs’. So I have no need to text when I can send a message on email from my Mac and they’ll get it on their phone if they so choose.

Linkedin? Not a chance. I don’t bother with those things. I’m an old lady—retired. I don’t want to bond with other women who work. But with technology and social media changing I am still wondering what the next big thing will be. I'll keep blogging until I just can't anymore.

But I have noticed there aren't as many blogs on my Google Reader posting as much as they used to. So is the death knell sounding? I sure hope not. I love to do my blog. What are your thoughts on this and please don't be reticent to talk about it? I'd really like to know what you think.

I love red doors. Mine is red but it is going to need painting by next year. I’m waiting to find the brightest, prettiest, truest color of red I can. I may even paint it a bright pink. We’ll see on which color I decide, but it’ll be a red pink no matter what.

Another beauty.

But my all time favorite house color combination is white house, black trim and red/pink fuchsia door. No doubt about that. We’re just trying to figure out how to do it with the way our house is.

I love this clever idea of old canning jars with lace glued to the outside just sitting around the house with tea lights in them. I’ll be making some and putting them out on occasion.

I don’t know where this building is but I sure salute the owner for being so bold with this gorgeous color of pink.

Sweet bedroom for a girl, but the clever use of fabric or a tapestry on the bed is lovely.

I have never seen such a darling patio set but I’d love to have it for our patio.

Now, we all know this is not realistic to have a bed outside but on a screened in porch this could be done with little or no trouble at all.

This old tub chair looks quite up-to-date with a pretty pink flowered fabric on it.

This dresser painted pink stuffed with plants could be put on a porch in a sunny location but out in a garden it would quickly fall apart with the elements beating it up.

This looks like it would be in another country from the decor and it’s darling but I’m not so sure the city would allow us to have a tree growing out of our roof. ;-)

This gave me an idea for the hanging lights I have in this office. I have two I haven’t hung up so I’m going to put some crepe paper ruffles on them and stick them somewhere in this house. I like this clever idea and I have scads of crepe paper.

Swoon. But where do you get sheets for round beds?

Just a cute idea for an outdoor dinner.

This idea is cute but I know my hubby wouldn’t like contending with curtains around our dining table. Plus, with a cathedral ceiling in there I doubt it would work without a lot of fabric and planning.

Cute red items for a backyard.

Just for smiles from you. ☺

Go find some old tubs and create this for a fun patio. Paint the tubs pink even.

  1. Hi Connie,

I have been noticing the same thing and have deleted blogs from my list that haven't been posting in the past 3 months. I certainly do miss hearing things from these people and have emailed them and told them so - and the emails go unanswered. What's with that? I may go on an occasional blog break - but give up my blog totally, that will never happen!

Oh how I love the idea of canning jars with lace on them holding votive candles!! And I love anything pink!! I always end up imagining when I check out your posts!!

    Hugs,
    Jan ♥

  2. Welllll, don't give up on me. I am still going to blog. Just bogged down with lots & enjoying lots of great company ... & many gr-kid-ling events ... then comes my gardening, oooo-la-la!

The canning jar idea is actually something that simple ol' me can do, I love it.!! You always share fabulous decors & ideas for which I do enjoy seeing, they inspire.

The red front doors are WOW!

Have a wonderful day, my friend
    Hugs,

  4. Hello, don't give up your blog please, I love it, it is really a dream. I come each day but I don't post any message because I'm afraid you don't understand me :(
I don't like social media, I think like you and I worry about the futur.
Bye, I'll come more often to write

  5. I tried FB and didn't care for it...the things shared on there, for the most part, seemed so inane and ridiculous. I have noticed the same as you that blogging seems to be going by the wayside and it makes me a little sad.

  6. Thanks for the photos, Connie. I would love one of those tubs for a fairy garden I want to make. I don't have a blog, as you know. But, I have noticed that a lot of places where I used to read have not been posting for a long time and some of them just seem to have stopped. On the other hand, I've noticed new blogs have appeared. So, I think probably new ones will replace the old ones.

I used to take a walk years ago in this beautiful area in Ottawa near the Rideau River and there was this white stucco house with black trimmed windows and a red door. Every time I passed the house, I would always admire that door. One day I came to the house to discover the owners had painted the door yellow. Imagine my disappointment. My red door eye candy was gone. And, that door had been red even when I was a little girl. It's a beautiful old house. The sort of house you don't often see. I tried to like the yellow door but I never succeeded.

I just want to add, not to insult you or anyone who has a blog with a live traffic feed on it, that I detest those traffic feeds. I always feel that I'm being spied on. If I ever decide to get a blog, I will not have that on my blog. Sorry, but I just had to add that.

  9. Hi Connie,
I think sometimes "Life" just takes us away from our blogs for awhile..or I think sometimes we can just run out of things to blog about. As for me I have been away due to my beloved sister's passing and a vacation. I wasn't sure if I wanted to post or not anymore after my sister passed, my blog just seemed to be a minor thing in the hole picture of life. So I think sometimes some of us just need to
refocus are lifes for awhile and then when we come back to blogging.
I have enjoyed your photo's today. I love all the red doors and of course red is my favorite color.
Have a sweet day and hugs, Elizabeth

  10. I love following your blog. One of the highlights of my day. I have a blog but am not real faithful with posting on it. I have good intentions, but..... I have facebook, originally to follow the grands and what they were up to. Now I am "friends" with many cousins who live far and wide. It is an easy way to send a message once and everyone gets it. It was very convenient in February while I was caring for my mother who passed at the end of February. I was able to post daily comments on her condition, who called, who visited, etc. And it was nice receiving encouragement from family and friends. Texting? Works for me as I am retired and my sisters and son still work, so I can send a message without worrying that I will interrupt them at work. They seem to check their texts more than their emails! lol My favorite is instant messaging (Yahoo). I live 2,000 miles from my sisters and it's a good way to stay in touch and chat without long distance charges. I look forward to our "visits". Sometimes we even conference all together (4 of us).

  11. I think it is the time of year, Connie. I tend to stay more busy...working in yard...gardening...etc. than in the winter. Your readers will pick back up come cooler weather, I think.

I always LOVE looking at your picks for Sat. I want that arched doorway in the first photo and the hanging lights in the last one. :))

  12. Hi Connie
Oh I do love your pics. I REALLY love the impact of a nicely coloured door! Red would be be very nice for sure.
I love the basin lights and the pretty white table set and the pink and white patio set. Very sweet.
WEll...I didn't blog very much for a while. I had laptop problems. Mine had gotten so slow and olden and I had a missing letter "s" and it became a chore. It was hard to just slip into a friend's blog and say a few words because it took forever to get there. I have a new one now and I'm blogging more. I still don't blog everyday and when I come on to read gf blogs I read a weeks' worth at a time...and then come back and read another person's..so that way I can catch up.

I don't twitter but do have facebook. I llike to read and comment now and again but I don't post much...pictures sometimes.

I don't like talking on the phone...I would rather email and I have no mind to write a letter which is bad because my nice handwriting is more quicker shorterhand and not so nice. I would have to practise being more precise with letters.

I don't know what will be next?....maybe this will just continue...for a while...and many will beome great friends and keep in touch in all different ways, visiting etc.
have a great weekend...and do come visit. I haven't seen you in ages.

  13. I try to visit you on each new post and leave a comment. However, lately leaving comments has been a real problem far me. I use Firefox. Not sure if it is the problem or something else. When I leave a comment, I exit out of them as usual. Next time in go back into the computer, all those many comments are still there. I am frustrated. I thought I was going to have to give up blogging, when they revised it. I am using the new version now. I was determined to learn it before they one day stopped the old way. I have no use for Facebook, Twitter or anything like that. I am not familiar the Google Reader. What do you know about Google Chrome? Maybe I need to switch to that. I always enjoy your post and style of writing. WE are not going to let a few bloggers ruin our enjoyment.

  15. I got on the bandwagon late - just started blogging in January. I am surprised when I check a blog on my blog list and the most recent post is 2 months back.

I have a bright red door - to me it a welcome sign. I don't know our shade of red, but it is pretty bright - a Benjamin Moore red.

  17. Hi Connie! I just typed a big ole comment for you and then it disappeared! Hopefully I'm not sending twice! Just wanted to say that I've always loved your blog and will never stop visiting. I find that I don't blog much anymore but love when I push myself to post because I love having the online record of my journey. I find that many have slowed down, like you said, but really hope that blogging does not die. We must keep it alive and I know that you will do your part. I hope to hang in there too!!

Love the red doors! My door is a boring beige. I do believe I know to spark it up with some red paint. Thanks for that inspiration!

Rachel just graduated high school. It was beautiful! College in the Fall. My babies are grown. My job is done. Yahoooeeee!

  19. I just started blogging, so hope it doesn't die yet. I still don't know how to do half of the stuff.
We sold a round bed at an auction 15 years ago and you can order sheets for it. Thanks for sharing

  20. Hi Connie, I was just wondering yesterday if people were going to continue to post on blogs as much since it seems so many people are now spending their computer time on Pinterest. Or maybe it is just because it is the beginning of summer, and things slow down as people have vacations. I love the doors and think that you should absolutely choose PINK! Happy Pink Saturday and a Happy Father's day too! ~Marti

  22. I love the canning jars with doilies and pinned it to my board. I started blogging this year and hope I continue to love it as much as I do now. I don't do much with FB now that I am blogging. How do you keep up with all these different social media things!?

  23. Cute photos! As far as blogging goes, I haven't really noticed a change with the blogs I subscribe to, but I've definitely not been blogging as much as I usually do. For me, it's just that I'm in the early stages of pregnancy and barely hanging on to do the basics around here! Ha! :) As for other social media: the only other one I've really been involved with is Facebook and I don't think I'd be there if it weren't for my mom. Although she just lives a few blocks away, we communicate a lot on there just for little things...since she doesn't have a phone. I find that Facebook takes up way too much time that I'd rather be spending elsewhere, though, so I try and avoid it! :)
