Backyard Patio

Love Bunny finished laying the bricks on the side of the patio the other day. It certainly does widen it for the BBQ grill. I told him we don't need one that big for the two of us, and next time we need one, it's going to be smaller. We've never used that side burner! How ridiculous are men and their "toys"? But it was a good deal at $99.00 for it about 5 years ago, and it is still going strong.

The yard is really greening up nicely this year.

And the four little rose bushes by the back fence survived. This is a major thing for me! I hope they spread quickly but I do think we'll need to get some more for back there.

I'm loving this view from the back fence to the patio. No, it isn't a very big yard and for those of you who say you want a big yard, big patio or deck, just wait until you get older—maybe late 60s or 70s—and I wouldn't be at all surprised if you change your mind. We did.

This honeysuckle bush is thriving beautifully. I love how it dresses up the storage shed.

A branch on our apple tree. I found my dehydrator up in the garage attic so now I can dry them for our granddaughter.

If this clematis survives, it'll be a miracle. We've gone through 8 of them and this is the only one that is surviving so far. It's pathetic but it keep struggling along, kind of like some of us.

Hubby's little peach pit he planted is surviving also. You can see the stick in the middle of this side yard. That's it! The stick is holding it up. See it right across from the air conditioner mid-way.

My quaking aspen trees. I love those trees because they truly look like they're quaking. They shake and shimmer and are just kind of sassy.

Made these two roses the other night. I did these a bit differently. I didn't roll them but folded them over and kept going around and gluing with my hot glue gun. Imagine that!

I like the way they turned out. More stuff to add to t-shirts or maybe even sell. Who knows? ;-)

  1. HI Connieness! Your backyard looks so nice and glad your plants are coming along. I did have to laugh when I saw the little stick in the yard! :)
Now I love those roses you've made. I'm going to have to try my hand at some of these.
Are you coming to my party on Friday.
    Be a sweetie,

    Shelia ;)

  2. Like the roses you made and pics of the backyard. When we relocated 1 and 1/2 years ago, we found a small yard too. We were working ourselves to death with the acre lot we had before. I like just enough for a little green and a few flowers...easy to manage. There are too many other things I want to do...like hug on grandkids!!

  3. Connie, have you thought of trying a Clematis montana? They are not so delicate, gow prolifically and dont need cutting back.

  4. You have a beautiful yard. And yes, I know what you mean about downsizing the yard. We currently have 3 acres to mow, some of it on a hill, and we are considering our "next" home and how much smaller the yard should be. We are older and want play time, not mowing time!!! (I also have a pitiful clematis... it comes back every year as a poor little twig of a vine... seldom blooms)

  5. Connie, I love your backyard and wish I had grass in mine. I understand about the yard size and wouldn't care if we had one at all except for the kids. I never enjoyed working in the yard and I guess that's why mine looks, um let's just say "bare"! Happy Wednesday, Kathy

  9. Hi Connie...I've been thinking about your pretty roses you make, and would'nt they be pretty on flip flops...ladies could put sticky velcro on their flip flops, and the opposite on the back of the rose.and there ya go..
they are probably already out there in blogland, but I just thought of it...
    pretty yard...so neat...
mine is junky with everything everywhere...good junk, of course.

  11. Your backyard is looking good. I liked to have never gotten the clematis to get growing. They need their roots shaded and the rest in sunlight. Put another pot of something right at the ground level to shade them. Once they take off they will go wild. Just like you for Pink. Love ya

  12. Connie....we downsized, too. Our yard is really small...I will post a few pictures....love your honeysuckle..don't you just love the scent?
Your roses need a well around them and don't forget to feed them regularly...just my humble tricks. They will show their love...promise. I haven't had clematis since we were in Washinton State....we have wisteria, tho.
Love your roses....they will sell. A bunch would be pretty in a glass dish too! I will have to try my hand at them, but yours are perfect!

  13. Very nice yard! I agree about the size of the yards (and houses) the older we get the less we need!

    Love the apple blossom picture!

The polka dot roses are very pretty!

  14. Isn't it amazing how just a few bricks can change the look of a patio?!!? It looks like your thumb is much greener than mine!! I really wanted to get my front window box planted before the new baby arrives but it doesn't look like it's going to happen. Oh well. I also promised our 8 year old that we could start a vegetable garden for him. I don't think it's too late. In fact, it's still been getting a little chilly here at nite in New York. Thanks for all of your wonderful pics. :)

  16. Connie, your yard is beautiful and I love the iron gazebo thing you have. I begged for one to grow my confederate jasmine on but it didn't do any good. Oh well, maybe someday. Your talents amaze me, even outdoor crafting. You are some Sweet Chickie. Love and hugs, Pat
