"What", you may say, is a "clip collector"??? Well, I'm about to tell ya, chicks. :-)
For more years than I want to count, I've clipped photos out of magazines to keep and dream over through the years. All different magazines. All different styles. All different colors. All different locations and/or countries. It didn't matter. If there was one thing in the article I deemed worth of keeping......clip, clip, clip. I have a whole file cabinet with photos of rooms, settings, advice on color, beautiful writings that touched my heart, etc.
So recently I thought I'd share some of those with all of you here. It's been on my mind because of the redo (Why wasn't it on my mind when we moved here 3 years ago?!) and scouring the paint stores for a color I liked. I always knew it would be pink but I just wanted a good pink paint that would outlast me. I want this to be the last time I paint this room.
Pink isn't traditionally a color most people would think about when painting a "public" room in a house. Some would paint a girl's bedroom maybe, but that's about as adventurous as they may get. Most women say, "Oh, my husband wouldn't live in a pink house", or "My husband wouldn't like it" or "I don't think I could sell it if I painted it pink" or something to that effect. Balderdash, men love my home. It says "serene" to them. It's a soothing color. And while I do recognize that some people - men AND women - don't care for pink, if it is your color of choice then go for it!! Dang to all those others!! LOL I say to them, "Tough! I'm gonna have my home the way I want it!" Love Bunny actually loves our home and he isn't as OCD about color as I am. I LOVE pink! I feel good around pink! I shall have PINK!! I think his favorite color is actually green.
Okay, so all this blather about pink and what comes up first in the pictures but a yellow kitchen. Nuuuuuuu, I'm not color blind; I just love this color of yellow in this kitchen. I wasn't particularly "into" yellow many years ago but I have to admit that if your cabinets are pine, yellow is the most gorgeous color against them you have ever in your life seen. I admit this knowing I had to eat crow about it over 30 years ago. Yellow is absolutely stunning on light or dark pine kitchen cabinets. The below photo rests my case on this one! Gorgeous.........
Have you ever considered "rings" as a napkin holder. I have. I have a collection of napkin rings somewhere up in the garage attic.
OH GIRL....you sure don't have to sell ME on PINK rooms...no.sir.ree... I love 'em!
ReplyDeleteAnd, I am so with you on PINK STRIPES...what is it that makes it so appealing? Now I am wanting something with pink stripes....oh, dear, will my hubby stand for another CHANGE in the living room...think NOT. ok. I can do stripes in the bedroom...hmmm, now let me see.....
love, bj

I love PINK!!
ReplyDeleteI painted PINK in an open-concept living room - dining room - kitchen - hallway and stairs in a condo I lived in, back in 1999. Even painted the inside of the double front doors PINK!!
I had contemporary furniture - glass and metal dining room set and occasional tables in the living room. A Black sofa and love seat, with a pale rainbow of soft, muted colors (including pink) in a small pattern.
Everyone LOVED my condo!!! Even the guys!!!
~Blessings,
Jan
Those pink rooms have started to make me a fan of pink....:-)

Connie...........I'm a clipper too!!!! :0) I have clipped decorating pictures since before I was married....over 26 years ago!I would cut out pictures and glue them on to notebook paper and keep them in notebooks. I am kind of sad that I didn't save all the ones from back then, I went through a big decorating discovery in the 90s and thought all my old stuff was yucky and tossed it. I still cut out pictures and I am really behind on getting them in my books.I love to look through them and get inspired. It also can be really helpful if you are redoing a room or a mantle or something to get new ideas. I love your pictures and I actually have that last one too!
ReplyDeleteHugs, Sharon
P.s. I used to have a pink and black room. I don't have much pink left, but I love red and burgondy.
Pink, greens and creams, those are my favourite soothing go-together colours. My dining room is an example of that.
ReplyDeleteOh those pictures are beautiful, sigh! Love the stripes too. Your new pink room will be wonderful.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your blog with me, It was such fun to stop by and read. xo, Alys

Hey Connie!
ReplyDeleteGirl, I love looking thru magazines, and I love dreaming about the pretty rooms in them.... and getting decorating inspiration from them. I'd have to say it's one of my favorite things to do, when I don't want to do anything or don't feel like doing anything around the house, or one of the pleasures I enjoy..... after all of my chores are done! LOL! There's just nothing like sitting down with a favorite magazine, it's like visitng an old friend isn't it!? I should start clipping out some of my favorite rooms from magazines and I should start a file as you have. The rooms you've shown are so pretty....
xoxo,
Queenie
