The Eyelash Caper

I have saved you chicks scads of money, do you realize that? I look so pathetic in some of these photos I'm almost ashamed to post them, but I'm shameless and this is a teaching moment from a GREAT GRANDMA(!) so here we go. Yes, Miss "A" arrived 5/27 at 5:15 am Pacific time. Of course pictures will follow you know!

Now, remember the mother's day present from my son and daughter-in-law—the false eyelash extensions done in California.

And then they start to come off and I looked like this. See pink arrow and also the inside of that same eye had lost some.

So I got home and tried to find someone here in Boise to do them. These are each individual eyelash extensions that get put on each lash. This procedure took about 2 hours. They do NOT look as good or lush as the ones that were in a clump and glued on to eyelashes and took less than 1/2 hour. Those looked fabulous, but can't find anyone who does them here like that. I prefer my normal lashes with mascara on them to this irregular look.

See what I mean? And you cannot curl them with an eyelash curler because it will stick and pull them off. I don't like these at all. Plus the glue used in both applications is a bit irritating. Tiny bits of it were always flaking off into the eyes. It didn't hurt, but it was irritating to me most of the time the extensions were on.

Not nearly as lush or pretty. Now, these were all black, just like the "clump" ones.

And while I'm showing you up close and very personal parts of my face, take a look at this lip gloss. I purchased it at WM. It's called NYC and is really thick and moisturing and it only costs $1.72!! I'm going back and buying every single tube of it they have. This shade is called cappucino.

Please bear in mind that I had to Photoshop a few of these because the camera was not kind. I did minimal Photoshopping though. Do NOT let those ads in magazines fool you; every single photograph is Photoshopped. Every single one!!!

So $30 for the "clump" extensions; $85 for the individual extensions, but another place in Boise wanted $200 and I was NOT willing to pay that much for something that didn't last. Make up your own mind but all-in-all, not worth the effort when my own are just fine when I put mascara on them and curl them. ;-)

  3. CONNIE! I am sooooo happy to make your acquaintance dear! I have seen your picture on other bloggers' comments page and HERE YOU ARE!!! WOOHOO! Your profile is so interesting to read! I WOULD HAVE NEVER GUESSED YOU TO BE A GRANDMOTHER OR GREATGRANDMOTHER! Thank you dear for coming to visit with me. I like your eyelashes AND.....to be honest, I wish I could be a stay-at-home wife too. I have no children, but I sure would be happy puttering around home, writing, doing my art, and doing what my mom did. After having been in school, which I will never regret, the rat race working world is too harsh! Oh well, these days, I am so grateful to have work, however. Enjoy your weekend and please come by anytime for some French fluff and fun. Anita

  4. I use that lip gloss all the time. I love it!

I was thinking of getting me some of those eye lashes. I don't know if I have the patience of two hours though of trying to get them on, lol.

  6. You are indeed a very brave woman! lol. But I think you are absolutely beautiful without those lashes. Although I really do like that shade of gloss.
Thanks for visiting Recaptured Charm today. I'm very glad you found me.

  7. Good Morning Sweetie...
I wanted to pop over and say thank you for the beautiful flowers. They so lifted my spirits. I am slow getting back to you, I apologize, but I am still struggling. I go to see the lung specialist this morning. I am praying he can get me back to where I need to be. This has been a long road. I still struggle just to get up the hall each day.

I have not been online much at all. I try but it tires me out.

I am thrilled to see your post. You so make my day. I have wondered about these extensions for some time. I have seen many signs for them here in the valley.

Love the lipstick. I will write that down, so when I do feel better and can go to WM. This lipstick is going to be on my list also. Beautiful sweetie, just beautiful.

Thank you again for you prayers and for thinking of me. It sure did make my day. I think of you even though I don't get to comment much. I am going to get stronger each day. Country hugs sweetie...Sherry

  8. Hi Connie, I just use my masacara, always a deep rich black, and it works great for me. Don't even bother curling them as the kind of mascara I use does that for me :) I know of someone who has had permanent eyeliner put on so they don't have to do it. Not sure I would want that done?

Girl, you look fantastic for being not only a grandma but great-grandma too!!! What's your secret ?

Have a fabulous and safe Memorial Weekend!!

    Warmest Hugs to you, Brenda

  10. You are too funny! Thank you for the heads-up on the eyelash extensions. I think I'll just stick to the short stubby eyelashes I've lived with for 50 years. Hope you have a great weekend!

  12. Hello Connie - I have to admit, I wouldn't have the patience or the money to deal with those eyelash extensions! You don't need them, my dear, your own eyelashes are just perfect!

Congratulations on the arrival of your great-grandchild!

  15. Hi Connie!
I have finally gotten by here to say "HI!"
    Forgive my tardiness!
This was a cool post- I have wondered about eyelash extensions since my older (college miss S) tells me that as we age, the lashes don't grow back (nor do our eyebrows) like they used to.
I dunno if this is true for me yet, as I am still plucking stray eyebrow hairs and look okay with mascara.
I don't count the hairs that fall off or grow back in, so I am clueless.
You have beautiful eyes, regardless of the eyelashes!
NYC! Yes! I have that same tube!! And a few other colors: Petal pink and au naturel. I love them, too, esp. the price.
Congratulations on your new Miss A! I have a Miss A, too, my daughter.
SO nice to meet you, new friend, and I got your entries for the birdcage giveaway, thank you!
Blessings to you as you make your home beautiful!

  16. Hi Connie. Wow you look great. It's unbelievable that you're a great grandma. I've always wanted long lush lashes. I've never had them and on top of that I'm blonde (well I was originally) so they barely show up.

Love that lip color on you. Just goes to show there are good deals out there.

Thank you for all your sweet comments on my apron. It always means so much and tickles me pink to hear from you.

    Hugs....Tracy :)

  18. Oh, sorry about the eyelashes ~ but your eyes are just beautiful even without the fake ones! Love that lip color on you. I found one that I liked at WM, too, but it is raspberry lipshine. I'll have to see who makes it...

  19. I was visiting Shelia and saw your comment about "eye lashes". Too funny Connie. I had mine done about 3 weeks ago now. It did take 2 hours, and I kind of liked it a lot at first, but your right, it is a little irritating. Nine get all twisted up like your third pic I think it was. I want them, but I don't. I can't pull them off, but I want them to fall off. I've picked up about 7 so far. I just want to rub my eyes, hard just because I want too. I do love the way I look in the morning though. My aren't we funny ducks? I will email you my pics. if I find your email in your profile.
Just had to come and say hi, and happy Pink Saturday tomorrow. i know your a pinky through and through.
    Love Claudie

  20. Congrats! on your precious baby arriving ... how proud you must be ... dancing on clouds I am sure.

Oh, Connie, you are so darn beautiful PERIOD! Shoot, wish I could look as good as you on a BAD day. I don't fool much with makeup ... eyelash creme, lipstick/gloss, eye brows touch up & boo-boo touch up & I am done.

Please THANK your husband for supporting our troops & selling the poppies ... & for his service.

    Have a lovely holiday weekend.

  21. Hi Connie, I laughed at your comment today. Bill is now on lesson #4 and I am still struggling with #2. I will have to break down and let him help me again. The professor is loving the idea of 'teaching' me. HA!

Your post to day cracked me up Connie. Touche' It is good to know the eye lash thingy is a bust. If they don't last, what's the point?
Your lips look luscious. Thanks for really putting yourself out there. Also for saving us lots of bucks on the eyelash fiasco. My sister had eyeliner tattooed on her lids. It looks great. I would be scared.

The last word is you look great just being natural you.

The best for last is CONGRATULATIONS GREAT GRANDMA!!! I am looking forward to some photos. Get that awesome Camera cranked up.

    Hugs, Jeanne

  22. Wow, Connie, I had no idea you could get lash extensions! Where have I been???? Do they have very fair blonde lashes? This has been my problem since I was a teen. Without mascara, I think I look scary. LOL. I wouldn't even go out to the mailbox without putting on mascara.

Thanks for the lip gloss tip, too!

I've never worn false lashes. That's one thing Rod gifted me with is long eyelashes! But honey, I gotta have my mascara!
    Happy Memorial Day weekend,

  27. I just love you and your posts! I work with several girls who get the eyelash extensions... and yes, after a few days, they start to look clumpy! Some of the girls say their eyes water really badly with them on, and the lashes just fall off. :o( I have the palest eyelashes of anyone I know, so I definitely have to use mascara. Wouldn't it be nice to find some permanent extensions??? The lipstick looks great on you, too!
