A Friend In Need

Our son in Southern California called a couple of weeks ago from his car and said, "Ma, I'm on my way to the airport to come up and have dinner with you tonight." Now, I thought it a bit unusual (!) that he'd come a thousand miles for dinner, but I'm game. He then told me one of his best friends from the Marine Corps was in a head-on collision in Afton, Wyoming and the closest trauma hospital is in Idaho Falls, Idaho. So he was heading to the airport to come into Boise, have dinner with us and head out to Idaho Falls to see him. I was grateful to see my son if just for a short while and feed him.

His friend had driven drunk and crashed into another car. He suffered a fractured pelvis, a broken bone, concussion and a few other things but he'll live. No one was even hurt in the other car, thank heavens for that. Of course, he'll probably live in jail for a while when he recovers. Our son and we don't drink alcohol at all. This friend had gone out of his way to visit our son over 25 years ago when he crashed his motorcycle. (No alcohol was involved there though, just a young man's foolishness in thinking he was invincible.) And if you're a friend of my son's, you've got a really good friend for life. He's a nurse and administered to his friend, who kept trying, and succeeded even though his hands were tied to the rails, to pull out every tube they had in his body, but our son slept in his room and kept him from doing much damage. He was really out of it. I'm very proud of my son and the girl who married him is very lucky to have him. He also is very lucky to have her.

Just a few days before that he got a call that another friend from high school had a stroke while eating dinner. After a few days, they pulled the plugs on him because there was no hope at all and he died. I think my son is feeling his own mortality now with his 2 closest friends being severely hurt or dying. Yep, he's experiencing it a bit earlier than most of us but it's a bit more traumatic when they're so young.

I love this darling pink and blue house!

Somewhere in Europe I'm sure. Quaint with a glorious profusion of color.

I had some of this fabric and it is exceptionally pretty.

Cute vignette for a bedroom.

Sparklies for ya!

Place to rest and relax.

The purse itself is darling but the colors here were what drew my attention.

This is so cute and would be so easy to do, even for everyday.

A touch of elegance for a plain ol' chair.

Just imagine a picnic like this. :-)

I truly like taking closeups of flowers, although, I didn't do this one.

Cute way to make a wedding announcement—vintage style.

Lovely stone path entrance.

How much more adorable can it get?

Well, there's always this one, too. ;-)

Christmas Candy

Recently, I picked up 2 boxes of candy at the grocery store to give to our mail lady and our trash man for Christmas. Delivering mail isn't so bad; we all love to see her or him coming down the street. But being a trash man is probably one of those jobs not many would choose to have. However, we in this house, are grateful for them. It's a thankless job but someone has to do it. Plus they are always grateful when hubs goes out and tosses a box up to them. (My great granddaughter looooves the garbage man and has to go out and stand and watch them in their cul-de-sac even in the rain, but it is always raining in the Seattle area. They wave and honk the horn for her. She even has a toy garbage truck she loves.)

But when I brought the boxes in the house I told Love Bunny to wrap them immediately. He didn't. Later that night I took the 2 boxes in to him in his home office and said he'd need to replace one. He just looked at me. Well, I did offer him a few pieces! He's just as bad as I am with sweets so he chastised me only a tiny bit! Next time he'll listen and wrap them immediately. ;-)

I tried to get a good clear shot of the sofa fabric outside. Here's one where it looks goldish.

This one looks more taupe from another angle.

This is probably the truest colors as you can see how it shades from gold to taupe depending on the angle you're looking at it. It's really very lovely in person.

A beautiful old world apartment in luscious pink.

Another warm climate home with vivid blues.

A cute way to display your cupcakes for a party.

And yet another presentation for cupcakes. This is gorgeous!

These little huts have to be on a tropical island somewhere.

And I always love good closeups of flowers, especially vivid ones.

I've seen this kitchen in a magazine. I think it's adorable. But I think I'd paint the whole kitchen pink, but that's just me. It's still lovely.

Imagine having a lunch on this pretty restaurant balcony.

This has to be something done for a flower show. I doubt I'd want to sit my tush on that many flowers.

Aaahhhhh, pretty pink, yellow and aqua vintage tins.

I've been looking for some Aubusson pillows but most of them are expensive. I'll just keep looking until I get within my price range.

This chandelier hung in a bank. When the building was made into apartments, they kept the chandelier and put it in a foyer for the occupants. What a nice thing to do with this beauty. It has 1500 lights on it!

I gave this advice to my friend several weeks ago: If you don't fly first class, your heirs will. I promise you I'm trying my best to leave them next to nothing. They don't need it! My friend is thrifty to the nth degree so her kids will probably inherit a lot. I plan on spending as much as I can before I leave this earth!

Food, Beautiful Women And A Granddaughter Story

Now, I can certainly understand people wanting to be healthy and eat well, but I'm really and truly sick of the food nazis telling me what I should eat. I eat healthy and can co it without any help from anyone. You know those lists of healthy foods they give you at the doctor's office from time to time or the ones you see at the supermarket or perhaps your children bring them home from school. I hate those! I know them by heart and we eat vegetables, small amounts of meat, beans, etc. But I have yet to see one where it has donuts, pastries, bagels, candy or such on it. I want to see that one! I love vegetables and beans but a girl's got to have some variety. I cannot imagine going through life without chocolate or donuts or Pepsi. I don't eat a lot of it. I really don't. But I would appreciate other people stop telling me what to eat. I know what to eat!
*

My vote for the most beautiful women in the world would be Sophia Loren, Elizabeth Taylor and Raquel Welch. They have the faces I think are classic. Sophia Loren once said she eats pasta almost exclusively. My kind of gal!
*

The other night I was talking with our granddaughter and asking about Caroline and Juliette and how they were. I always want to hear about them and what new things the Big Sister is saying. ;-) This night was a story about going out to eat.

Heading out to the restaurant, a Chinese Mongolian BBQ, Caroline said as they walked out the door, "A muffin would be nice." Mummy and Dada looked at her wondering where that came from. The whole way to the restaurant she kept saying, "A muffin would be nice." Mummy said she said this all the way. She's only 2 1/2 years old and runs that house! LOL Well, almost. They're on to her antics by now, but this is one smart cookie, I think. ;-)

Then when her Dada has to go out at night for a grocery item or something, Caroline will hold up her hand in a "stop" sign to her mummy and say, "It's too dark for you, mummy, I'll go." This indicates she wants to go along for a treat as you may well know. That little munchkin has them wrapped around their little fingers so thoroughly it's laughable!

This is one of those sofas I liked but the whole room is neat, clean and cute.

More decorated bottles.

A house in France for rent.

More luscious roses.

A pretty cafe.

Just eye candy in white.

I think this is a cute quaint entrance to a home. Love the colors and the little window with a ruffled curtain/blind.

Beautiful table and setting.

If only we could all have such adorable kitchens like this.

Lovely entrance with all the flora around it.

Beautiful dining room.

Cute valance.

Love that lamp shade.

Pink sofa, crystal chandelier. Beautiful!

French cafe. The chairs certainly look comfortable to invite long conversations.

Grocery Shopping and Mommy Teasers

I went grocery shopping by myself today. I'm tired of th' Love Bunny grabbing my cart and trying to prevent me from killing/running over/maiming a shopper! I made him stay home. The problem with sending him alone with a grocery list with 5 items and he arrives back home with 8 is I told him to stick to the grocery list and NOT get a thing else not on the list. Never, ever happens. You've heard this story before but I've now decided it's time to go it alone. Sheeeesh!
*

When we were at my granddaughters a couple of weeks ago for the birth of her second child, I taught Caroline, her 2 1/2 year old a new thing—cover your ears and wag your tongue while saying lalalalalalala. She took to that like a menopause woman takes to chocolates! Her dad looked at me and I gave him the look that said, "Forget it; I'm doing my own thing with her whether you like it or not." He acquiesced and I think it's because he thought it was cute. What Dada wouldn't?! LOL BUT I also told her to tell her mummy afterwards: Mummy teaser (this to lighten the occasion). And every time we'd practice it, she'd say "mummy teaser." I instructed her well.

Well, a few nights ago, I called granddaughter to see how the girls were and asked if she had done it to her. She said, "Yessss!" Just the night before Caroline said she didn't want to eat the dinner and after a few "back and forths" she covered her ears and said, "Lalalalalala." She said she didn't like the dinner and wanted pear sauce (we get that here at our local Church cannery and it's delicious and Caroline's favorite dessert.) I asked if Caroline said, "Mummy teaser." Nuuuuuu she didn't. I said, "Oooooops." I'll have to correct her error next time we go over. She is one of the smartest kids I know (All grandmothers/great grandmothers say this!). She never forgets something we tell her. I think she was just full of herself at the dinner table that night. But that will NOT stop me from teaching her funny things. ;-) We're humorous and her mom and dad did laugh at her.

I guess you know by now I was looking at a plethora of sofas and accessories a LOT while trying to decide on a sofa for our home. These are two that I love. Actually, I love that whole room.

Romantic roses in a rustic setting. Adorable.

A cute tea cart.

A place I know most of you would love to go visit. Me? I'll stay here and watch th' house for ya! ;-)

Another little jar I'd love to have.

Are these adorable or what?!

Looks like a place in a Scandinavian country.

Pretty basket of tiny pillows.

I do love this living room also. What a cute coffee table.

Paradise!

More decorated bottles.

I might even cook more if I had this kitchen. Cute!

There's enough froufrou here for me. I love froufrou!

While this is adorable, it sure doesn't make for pleasant conversation at the table if none of the guests can see each other. Love it for its "darling-ness" though.

Imagine. ;-)
