My Porch

Spring is just around the corner; I can feel it on my face. I went out to the post box this morning and the delicate drizzle just kissed my skin with dewy mist drops. It felt wonderful on my face and brought to mind evenings spent on my porch in the spring. We can't sit on the porch comfortably during August for the most part because of the heat here in the desert of Idaho. But I thought you just might like to see what I have on my porch. It's relatively large by some standards in our neighborhood and covered with a little fence railing across the top, but very protected from the sun and elements. I do love it though. I plan on putting shear voile curtains up there for the spring and summer. Hmmmm, maybe that could be a "honey do" for Love Bunny today. Ooooh, I can hear him now. Sigh......

Anyway, here is a clock with the temperature and humidity of the day I took this picture. It was given to me by my brother when he came to visit a couple of months ago and each time he comes he feels he has to buy me a little something for the house. I appreciated it but I had no place indoors to put it so it went on the front porch. Actually, I love it out there so I can see what time it is when sitting there.

This is one of two faux geraniums I have sitting out there in pots. The pots are concrete so I don't move them around a lot! I did do a verdigris paint job on them though.

This is the wreath I have hanging on my front door. I showed this just after I made it last fall but maybe you didn't see that post. It is stunningly white and pink. This photo is very true to the color of my door and the wreath.

This is the other concrete pot with more faux geranium bushes in it. Trust me, nothing will live in this summer heat and winter cold but faux plants!

I purchased this at World Market a couple of years ago. Since I'm sooooo into the shabby chic, flea market, romantic ME style of decorating, I think this fits right in.

I also love these little oil paintings of the Italian countryside and impressionistic style of flowers. I bought them for a wee amount at World Market also.

My mother bought me this little plaque when we moved to Idaho. She was so proud of the huge, fancy home we bought there, but I'm thrilled to have left it behind! I am so much happier in this small house in the larger town. I'd never live in a small town again. I'm a "suburban" chick from the word GO. I want to be able to shop and eat without running into just about the whole town. ;-)

Yep, these are my humble attempt at roses and bird nests. Not beautiful, but I can at least say I did them. There wasn't much wall space left in the house but I decided I'd like to display them for all who enter this house to know I tried in my own humble little way.

Pretty Home

Today I went visiting teaching to 2 women in our ward. This is one of them and she is a real sweetie with a school teacher hubby and 4 munchkins—2 girls in school and these 2 boys with whom she stays at home to raise.

The other lady didn't want to be photographed but allowed me to photograph her home. I though you all might like to see what a lovely place it is. It's situated out in the country and has a fantastic view sitting up on a knoll overlooking a lake in our area. I live about 12 miles away but near that lake. This view is approaching her home in a very large cul-de-sac.

Her family room is in the back of the house just over a counter top from the kitchen.

The kitchen is a dream kitchen of course, but you'd have to want to cook to have it. I don't!

Pantry door is on the right side of this room. It's truly everything most people would want in a kitchen.

This is the formal dining room on the left just as you enter the front door.

Her daughter and two grandchildren just moved back in with her so it's a bit crowded and some adjustments have been made to accommodate the 3 extra people so her small formal living room has a danish sofa bed in it at the moment. The bed is called a "click-clack" because it makes that sound when you pick up the bottom to make it go all the way down into a bed. Not something you'd want to sleep on for a long time but for company for a few days it works fine. Most of the antiques in her house are truly antiques from Denmark where she is from. Most of the paintings are done by her family and very old.

The master bedroom is large but not overly so. It accommodates these two love seats and her bed, chair, 2 night stands and large chest of drawers rather well. I wish my bedroom was as large.

This is the master bathroom and it's absolutely huge. Probably her whole bathroom is about 1/3 the size of my whole house. You would not bump into your hubby at all in this space. The toilet is in a separate room and the walk-in closet is also very large.

The shower is a walk-in with no doors or curtains. The floor is soapstone. Very, very large. It would fit 2 people easily.

The tub sits in the center of the room as you can see.

She wanted me to show you this beautiful hanging in her front entry way. It is really beautiful.

From this angle just off her kitchen you can see the dining room, the front entry and her home office just to the left in the photo through those french doors. It's small but certainly works for her. It's beautiful inside but at the moment has a baby's crib in there for her granddaughter.

It's About Time

If you know me well, you know I'm a stickler for being on time. Actually, for me and hubby "on time is 5 minutes early." Time is important to us all and people are frequently heard saying "I just don't have 'enough' or 'the time' to do this or that." Well, we all have the same amount of time—24 hours in each day; it's what we do with it that counts. So actually it's more about time management than it is about time. I have at least one clock in every single room in my home so I know what time it is when I need to leave for an appointment.

This little jewel sits on my coffee table in the living room facing me when I'm in the big soft leather chair. I can graciously glance at it, and not my watch, so as to not offend a visitor who may be thinking they are usurping my time. It just keeps me on time if that becomes an issue. I am gracious most of the time. Not always, just ask my friend Sherilynn! ;-) When I get obnoxious, she puts me back on center.

This one is on Love Bunny's side of the bed. The numerals are bright when I awake in the middle of the night and want to know the time.

This is my microwave oven clock, and the stove clock is just below it. I won't bore you with two digital clocks that look basically the same.

This is our gorgeous grandfather clock in a corner of our living room. It has the most beautiful chimes that ring on the quarter hour, half hour and hour. We're so used to them we rarely "hear" them anymore.

This is another kitchen clock right next to my sink so I can check it while preparing food or washing dishes.

This is another one in my living room. It's on the wall behind the leather chair so Love Bunny can see it from his chair opposite mine.

This is in my craft room. It's just an inexpensive clock but I can hear it tock when I'm in there. This is a very, very quiet house since we don't have television and don't listen to the radio very much at all. I relish the quiet and serenity of my home. Almost heavenly!

My iMac clock. The little frog sitting here are my "eyes." When traveling it sits on the car dashboard and when hubby exceeds the speed limit, I take my "eyes" off the dashboard and tell him "I have my eeeeeeeyes on U!" He laughs but the frog sometimes bites him. It's serious business being a "seeing eye frog", I tell ya. But as you can see the clock on my Mac shows in the upper right hand corner and tells me what the time is every hour on the hour.

This vintage clock sits on LB's desk and, as you can see, he doesn't change it with the time change. Sigh......

This is a clock given to us by our son commemorating our 40th anniversary almost 9 years ago. It has a plaque engraved with the date, our son's family's names and our marriage date.

I have two of these clocks. This one is also in my office, which I'm in most of the time. There is also another one in the living room making it four clocks in that room. I can see the time from every single place I might sit in that room.

Pink Saturday 3/6/2010

I've been trying to come up with some more little flowers from ribbon or scraps. I saw a video doing these with scraps and tried them. Scraps work great; ribbon, not so much. I'll just have to do my regular roses with the ribbon.

First a word of caution to those of you who aren't really familiar with Blogger Buzz out there. I made a decision early on with blogging that I wasn't going to include music on here because mostly it is very byte intensive. In other words, it eats up a lot of "space" and this is especially hazardous to those of you who have a certain limit to your bandwidth. It was my decision to create a blog that was easy to load. Music, sparkly and glittery images use a lot of that. I didn't want to make the experience unpleasant or make you use your bandwidth more than necessary. Text takes very, very little bandwidth. Plus a lot of people don't like music and may not like your particular genre. That being said, this was posted on the blogger site recently from their administrative people. I'd seriously consider whether having music on your blog is worth getting it pulled. I'd also advise you to pass this along to fellow bloggers so they won't be cut off unexpectedly. Here is the post:

Earlier today, word spread about some popular music blogs that were recently removed from Blogger. While we make it a policy to not publicly discuss individual users or their accounts, we wanted to clarify a few things about how and when Blogger enforces its Terms of Service as they relate to our DMCA policy.

Last summer, we updated our enforcement of the DMCA [Digital Millennium Copyright Act]. Our current policy is that when we receive a DMCA complaint, we:


• Notify the blogger about the complaint by e-mail and on the Blogger dashboard.


• Reset the offending post to 'draft' status, allowing the blogger to remove the offending content.


• Send a copy of the complaint to ChillingEffects.org.


When we receive multiple DMCA complaints about the same blog, and have no indication that the offending content is being used in an authorized manner, we will remove the blog.

Inevitably, we occasionally receive DMCA complaints even though the blogger does have the legal right to link to the music in question. Whether this is the result of miscommunication by staff at the record label, or confusion over which MP3s are "official," it happens. If this happens to you, it is imperative that you file a DMCA counter-claim so we know you have the right to the music in question. Otherwise, if we receive multiple DMCA complaints for your blog, this could very well constitute repeat offenses, compelling us to take action.

Update 2/11/10: We looked into this issue further and identified one case where a blogger did not receive notification of any DMCA complaints before their blog was removed. We're sorry about this.

We've contacted the blog owner and restored their blog, effective immediately, and we fixed the bug that caused the termination without prior notification. We're also looking into additional preventative protections. We know the DMCA process can be difficult to navigate, and we're working on ways to make this process as smooth as possible.
